Why We Blog
Blogging is a very new experience for most of us in the CG and we are grateful for the opportunity. We aren’t failed or wannabe writers and we certainly don’t hate editors (although we think a number of them can o a better job!). We’re not lonely people – many of our contributors lead busy and fruitful lives at home, in the workplace and in church and have meaningful relationships in all of these places. It is possible that some of us use the blog as a medium to get it all out.. but not all of us. We certainly don’t use the blog to make any money – in fact, the blog is maintained by generous donations of time and effort of each individual contributor.
Its aims are simple really. This blog and its entries represents the online life journal of the Latreia Care Group (CG). It has the following as its primary aims:
- to document and share the important events and moments in the life of the CG and its individual members;
- to share, with all readers, the thoughts and experiences of members of the CG as well as our common love for Christ Our Saviour and Lord AND most of all,
- to edify God and share of His love and care for each and every one of us
.
Yes, but why a blog (and not a forum or Twitter)?
A Captive audience
We blog because we get satisfaction from knowing that a certain number of people are interested in what we do and read what we put up each time.. even if that certain number of people only consists of other members of our own CG, our families or friends. Blogging gives the reader the opportunity to read whenever they want to or have the time. An article or post can be read days, months or years after it has been published. No messy clippings or microfiches necessary.. and the archives are easily accessible to all. Many of us also have loved ones and friends living overseas and the blog allows them to keep in touch with us and what we’re doing. We could do that with Twitter too but that would be a little too much minutae.
Gives us a high!
We get a thrill from trying something that is non-traditional in a church context.. well.. at least in our church. More importantly, we believe in relationship evangelism. Hopefully, the reader gets a sense of how the CG is growing or maturing in our faith over time. Comments and contributions to the blog adds to our individual and collective knowledge. By sharing experiences, we learn from one another. Knowing that someone else out there on the Internet might also be learning something as well makes the activity even more meaningful.
Make a Difference!
The church has its traditional ministries and many of us are involved in these. However, we’ll be the first to admit that our church is a follower and not a forerunner riding on the wave of technology. The Internet is so much a part of everyone’s lives these days. We’re just trying one more thing to make ourselves relevent. As one of our contributors put it, blogging is but a tool to bring the church to the masses and to make it and God’s message more accessible to the seeker. It might seem a little naive and perhaps even a little ambitious since there are already so many websites and blogs out there and there are so many others (who are more capable and spiritually mature) who already have an Internet presence. But hey.. every effort counts. Even if it is only one article or one comment from our blog that has made a difference in someone’s life, or contributed to their knowing our Lord better, we’ve achieved something.
However, do keep in mind that we are a group of individuals, with differing levels of spiritual maturity, personalities, mannerisms and styles of expression. We also have different interests and guess what, some of these interests even change with time. So, bear with us if a particular article or post contains subject matter which is of no interest to you. It’s fine with us if you log on one day, look at our blog, decide that there’s nothing of interest to you that day and go away… we believe there’s always another opportunity for God to speak to you with our next article or post.
Again, thanks for dropping by. We hope you too will join in our conversations, find something that encourages you or learn something that speaks to you, or perhaps feel that your emotional, physical and or spiritual needs are being ministered to. Most of all, we hope and pray that you too can have a closer and more meaningful walk soon with Jesus Our Lord and Saviour!!
